Waiver period

Students with existing health coverage can waive GW Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) by submitting an online waiver form. The waiver site opens for fall waiver requests on June 1 and December 1. Students are strongly advised to submit their waiver requests early as this can help ensure their hold will be removed in time for registration – though keep in mind the process could take several days!

SHIP is mandatory for full-time WesternU students enrolled in non-degree, thesis/dissertation continuous registration courses or international students on F1 or J1 visas. Students granted an exemption must comply with tuition payment requirements by making all payments by the first day of their term; otherwise they risk incurring a tuition hold and are unable to register for classes.

All WGU students are required to submit a criminal background check prior to starting coursework, with this requirement intended to protect the public and meet program expectations, reasonably ensure compliance with state regulatory board requirements and meet contractual/legal obligations with clinical partners. Any flagged background checks will be evaluated individually in order to assess admission or placement into programs.

WGU provides more than 60 bachelor’s and master’s degrees across business, IT, healthcare and K-12 education tailored for working adults. Their competency-based learning model helps students progress as quickly as they learn while saving both time and money on tuition costs.

At our university, students benefit from not only an outstanding academic experience but also from numerous resources designed to promote both their personal and professional wellbeing. These include mental health and wellness support services, 24/7 crisis support services and referrals to local basic life needs resources. Furthermore, we have a career center which assists in job searches, resume reviews and interview preparation.

Anthem associates who meet certain eligibility requirements can now pursue graduate studies without incurring significant out-of-pocket expenses thanks to this new partnership between both companies. It marks one of the first programs offering employee-based graduate degrees in America; The Anthem Education Assistance Program will cover tuition and up to $5,000 annually towards an approved master’s degree program.

Exclusions

WGU requires its students to maintain comprehensive health insurance until an acceptable waiver application has been submitted by the designated deadline. This policy covers both full-time and part-time students enrolled in thesis/dissertation continuous registration courses; it does not apply, however, to programs with 100% online instruction or with no traditional face-to-face coursework.

Students should discuss their options with their advisors to find the one that’s right for them, using the MUSC website to check coverage status or purchasing coverage through Academic Health Plans if applicable.

WGU provides an innovative tuition model that empowers students to manage the final costs of their degrees. Tuition is charged per term, while an affordable monthly subscription includes access to all online learning resources (e-books, library access etc). By eliminating bookstore sticker shock and eliminating bookstore sticker costs compared with traditional universities, this flexible approach saves students hundreds each term at WGU compared with traditional universities. Furthermore, WGU’s unique model also enables accelerated progress through material they know well or learn quickly to further reduce total degree costs.

WGU may require official transcripts from previous educational institutions in order to evaluate transfer credit, confirm sufficient background for graduate programs, or assess financial aid eligibility. Our free transcript gathering service makes this easy – contact us now so that your transcripts arrive as quickly as possible!

Students completing Leavitt School of Health programs will be required to submit fingerprints and criminal history records, which will be carefully considered in each individual case to protect the public, ensure program expectations are being met, meet state regulatory board requirements and support WGU’s contractual and legal obligations to clinical partners. WGU reserves the right to review any flagged records at its own discretion and may revoke enrollment based on its findings.
