Shelter offers additional options to standard car insurance policies.

  • Protection for new car replacement. Shelter will cover the cost of a new vehicle if it is totaled and has less than 15,000mi. This coverage is available with all auto insurance policies for new vehicles.
  • Insurance that covers disability income. Shelter will pay a weekly stipend to you if you are injured in a car accident and cannot return to work. Shelter can provide this for up to one-year. This coverage is not available in all states.
  • Accidental death coverage pays out if you or your spouse die in a car crash. You can extend this coverage to other family members.
  • Gap insurance. If your collision coverage does not cover the entire amount that you owe after your vehicle is totaled, Shelter will pay the difference.

Shelter offers auto insurance discounts that include:

  • Safe driver discount.
  • Good student discount.
  • You will receive a discount if your premiums are paid in full every six- or twelve months.
  • Multi-car discount.
  • Companion insurance discount for those who are at least 48 years of age and have another qualifying Shelter policy.
  • If you have a combination of a life and property insurance policy, you will receive a discount.
  • Safety discount for cars with factory-installed airbags or seat belts
  • If you successfully complete an accident prevention course, you will receive a discount
  • Louisiana military discount for active personnel
  • If every driver in your household is under 21 years old, you will receive a discount
  • Discount on anti-theft devices (only available in Kentucky and Illinois).
  • Uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage discounts available for households with at least two vehicles, motorbikes, or motorhomes that are insured through Shelter (Nevada only).
  • Window identification discount: If your vehicle identification number is etched into every window, it will be displayed in Louisiana only

Insurance for homeowners who are in need of shelter

Shelter’s home insurance policy provides the usual coverage to protect your property and home, but also offers additional coverage like:

  • Debris removal. After a covered claim, shelter will pay for the removal of debris.
  • You will be reimbursed for necessary repairs following a loss. This includes repairing a hole to stop rain and animals from getting into your home.
  • Fire department charge reimbursement. Shelter will reimburse you up to $500 for fire department charges when they are called to protect your house.
  • After a qualifying claim, trees, shrubs, plants, and lawns coverage will pay you for any damage to your property’s greenery.
  • Check forgery and credit card fraud can result in a fine of up to $1,000.

Shelter offers home insurance discounts that include:

  • Multiple policy (bundling) discount.
  • If you have security alarms, smoke alarms or deadbolt locks, your protection devices will be discounted.
  • You don’t have to file a claim for six years consecutively in order to get a discount on your policy.
  • New home discount.
  • Heating system discount if you don’t burn coal, wood, or any other solids.

Shelter life insurance

EZ Term Insurance: A term insurance policy that covers $50,000 is available to most people over 40. The monthly premiums will remain the same throughout the term. You can convert the policy to permanent life insurance anytime before 40 years of age without proving good health.

Level Term Life Insurance can be purchased in 10, 20, or 30 year periods and is renewable up until 95 years. The coverage amounts start at $100,000.

Shelter Express Term Life Insurance is for those aged between 18 and 60 who do not need to undergo a physical exam. Shelter will cover you up to $100,000 if you pass the health questionnaire.

For children and grandchildren under 17, Junior Special Insurance provides $20,000 coverage. When the person turns 25, coverage can be converted into a permanent policy for up to $100,000.

Shelter also offers permanent life insurance policies, including whole and universal life.
