Are Veneers Covered Under Insurance?

If you have a discolored, misaligned, damaged, missing or misshapen tooth or entire smile, dental veneers can help restore its beauty. You may be considering veneers to transform or correct your smile. However, most insurance companies do not cover veneers because they are considered cosmetic procedures.

Cherrywood Veneers: Does any insurance cover dental veneers?

A single dental veneer costs between $1,000 and $2,000, but it can vary depending on what material is used and how skilled and experienced the dentist is. It also depends on where you live geographically.
Most dental insurance does not cover elective cosmetic procedures like veneers. It is a good idea to check with your insurance provider before you start treatment. This will allow you to know what to expect and how much you can afford your veneers.

How can I make Lumineers more affordable?

Cherrywood Dental Associates offers two options for patients in need of financial assistance: CareCredit or Lending Club Patient Solutions. CareCredit offers extended payment plans with reduced interest for 3-24 months and extended payment plans for more expensive treatments like veneers or cosmetic dentistry. Lending Club provides interest-free financing options.

CareCredit: What is it?

CareCredit is a credit card that’s exclusively for healthcare services. CareCredit has no upfront fees and no prepayment penalties. This allows you to pay over time, and leaves cash and credit cards available for other things you might need. CareCredit provides monthly payment plans to cover healthcare services not covered by your insurance, such as dental treatment.
CareCredit offers

  • There are no minimum monthly payments
  • There are no upfront fees
  • No prepayment penalties

How to get the most out of your insurance

Although dental veneers are not covered by insurance, the cost of dental crowns (sometimes called “caps”) that are fitted to replace damaged teeth is usually covered. This flexibility allows Dr. Aguil to find ways for patients who need crowns to be installed as part their overall smile plan. It also gives them some financial relief.

It is important to note that insurance companies typically only cover 50% of basic crowns. They also have a limit of $2000 per year for the procedure. Any upgrades or costs beyond that amount (as well the cost for wax needed to form the impression necessary to create the crown), will be covered by the patient.

All of these costs add up quickly, and with an estimated cost of $1800 to $2500 per porcelain veneer, the final bill will likely be quite high. Aguil won’t do veneers on patients who have received less than six veneers. He prefers to use 10 veneers or more when fixing a patient’s smile.

Why quality veneers are important

While veneers may be more expensive at other dental offices, they will likely charge less as they can fit patients with crowns and veneers made from inferior materials. These situations can lead to additional dental costs as the veneers used by these patients will likely fail or break.

What are the Costs of Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers have a high success rate, with veneers lasting on average ten to twenty-years. Veneers won’t stain and can be made as bright or as dark as you like. Veneers can be cared for in the same way as natural teeth. This makes it easy to transition to a new smile.
Dental veneers can be strong but it is important to not use them as tools. Instead, chew hard candy or ice and avoid damaging your investment.
Dental veneers are not an irreversible procedure. We advise our patients to make sure they are happy with their decision and take good care of their veneers.
